5 steps to make your next video conference a success
Video conferencing and online meetings went from exception to standard. We provide you with five tips that will help you to get the most out of your next conference call:
1. Position your video camera correctly.?
The webcam, laptop or smartphone lens should never film from the bottom up – to avoid this wrong angle, you can put your camera on top of a book or a box. You will look better at eye level, and the conversation will not appear “from above”.
But not only the position of the camera is essential, but also its distance from the lens needs to be well chosen. Sitting too close to the lens can result in distortions – your camera position is optimal when a part of your upper body is visible, and there is still some space above your head. It is also advisable to check the position before and not during the call.
2. Prove your attitude
A chin stretched downward (rather than forwarding), and an upper body leaning slightly forward convey confidence. There are better moments than the video conference to sit back and relax.
3. Background calm, but not too calm.
Eye-catching patterns or movements in the background can be distracting, but the surroundings should not be too monotonous either. In addition, pay special attention to the lighting – make sure that the setting highlights your background no more than your face.
4. Dress code – less is more.
You can’t go wrong with clothes in neutral colours. Bright and shiny tops often reflect the light too much; wearing colourful clothes distracts from the action.
5. Fiat lux – shine in the right light
In many offices, people rely on artificial ceiling lighting, which creates shadows on the face – that’s why we recommend a light source that illuminates your face from the front. The light should be as natural as possible to prevent blue or green skin in the meeting. It is also advisable to adjust the brightness of the device used to avoid reflections. The Helios daylight lamp proves to be the ideal solution here: thanks to its large-area light emission, adjustable illuminance and dynamic colour temperature adjustment, the desk lamp becomes an all-in-one lighting concept.
