Lights for the visually impaired
Our lamps for the visually impaired serve as effective visual aids for everyday use and are particularly characterized by their high illuminance levels, optimal glare control, and flexible adjustment options. This allows for individual adjustment of the light intensity and color. For particularly fine work or for those with severe visual impairment, we also offer magnifying lamps with additional optical magnification.

I've been suffering from macular degeneration for several years. Since getting this lamp, my everyday life has improved dramatically. I worked with a regular desk lamp for a long time and noticed that reading documents was becoming increasingly difficult. With the new lamp, it's much easier again, partly because I can adjust the brightness flexibly, and I notice that the light is much less glaring. A huge relief for me! Many thanks to the RMD team.

Frequently asked questions
Why an RMD light?
For 20 years, we have been working closely with visually impaired people and visually impaired workshops, developing lighting solutions tailored to their needs. With our lighting solutions, we aim to specifically improve the visual performance of people with visual impairments, compensate for their visual impairment, and thus improve their quality of life. Our luminaires for the visually impaired serve as effective visual aids for everyday use and are particularly characterized by their high illuminance levels, optimal glare control, and flexible adjustment options.
Which light color is best for me as a visually impaired person?
The right light color influences contrast and detail recognition. Warm white light (2000–3000 K) is pleasant but offers less contrast. Neutral white (3000–5000 K) is a good middle ground, while daylight white (> 5300 K) offers the best contrast and is ideal for the visually impaired. Tunable white lights, whose color temperature can be flexibly adjusted, are particularly practical. This allows you to switch between warm white, neutral white, or daylight white light depending on the time of day and your needs, ensuring optimal lighting at all times.
What level of illumination do I need if I have visual impairment?
The required illuminance for visually impaired people depends heavily on the type and degree of visual impairment. In general, the worse the vision, the higher the illuminance should be. We recommend at least 2.800–3.300 lux, but more is preferable.
Are there different ways to attach the lighting?
Flexibility is a top priority for people with visual impairments. Depending on the space, the light can be suspended from the ceiling, mounted directly at the workstation, or attached to an opposite wall. This leaves the desk free, allowing the lighting to be optimally aligned without getting in the way.
What do I do if the LED modules in my lamp are defective?
Our lights are designed so that the LED modules can be replaced, so you don't have to throw the light away straight away. If your lamp has a defect, contact us by email, telephone or using the contact form on our website and we will take care of it.
