How do I get a balanced brightness distribution?

Why a correct distribution of light in the workplace is important

The luminance (lm) quantifies the perceived brightness of an illuminated surface - a balanced distribution of the light in the field of vision makes a significant contribution to visual performance and comfort. Extreme differences in brightness are perceived as unpleasant by people. The visual stress results, among other things, in tiredness and lack of concentration. It is therefore important to avoid both too high and too low luminance contrasts in order to prevent an unstimulating and monotonous working environment.

The EN 12464-1 standard recommends a contrast ratio of around 3:1 (75% / 25%) between the workplace and the environment. This means that the area of activity should be illuminated three times as brightly as the surroundings - this is the only way to ensure that the focus of vision is on the essentials.
