How do I clean my RMD articulating or pendant luminaire in the right way?
Anodized aluminum luminaires require very low maintenance even with daily use. However, after a while, the light housing may fade due to dust and dirt – you should clean the light.
In order not to damage the natural protective layer and the aluminum during cleaning and to restore the noble appearance, we have compiled some do’s and don’ts for cleaning:
DO’s
- Maintenance interval 1-2 times a year – To ensure that your RMD workplace luminaire still looks like new after years, we recommend cleaning and maintaining the luminaire 1-2 times a year.
- Disconnect from power – Be sure to disconnect the fixture from power before cleaning, whether dry or wet, to avoid electric shock.
- Soft towel or sponge – Use a soft towel or sponge for wet and dry cleaning.
- Clean water to remove light dirt – For light dirt and dust, in most cases, a simple cleaning with clean water is sufficient.
- pH-neutral cleaning product without chlorine – For more stubborn soiling, you should use pH-neutral, chlorine-free soaps with a pH level between 5 and 8. It is important to rinse with clear water after cleaning.
- Special cleaners for very heavy soiling – Special cleaners for anodized aluminum profiles help with particularly stubborn dirt such as oil, grease or plastic residues. However, it is essential to observe the contact time of the products when using them and do not forget to rinse with clean water.
- Final Care – Final care sprays or beeswax can be used to achieve an extra satin look.
DON’TS
- Chemical cleaners and acids – Chemical cleaners or acids can attack the surface of the aluminum – resulting in unwanted and unsightly stains.
- Scratching sponges or abrasive substances – Even though the surface of our luminaires is particularly hard and scratch-resistant, you should avoid scratching sponges or abrasive substances at all costs. They can damage the protective coating of the housing.
- Exceed maximum exposure time – When using special cleaners, you should observe the recommended exposure time. Basically, the cleaner should not be left to act for longer than one hour.
Your luminaire will thank you and shine for a long time if you follow these tips 😉
