A new lamp for the fly tying workshop

New light for the fly tying workshop

How our FLEX Focus found its way to Jan P.'s fly tying workshop...

The winter months are the ideal time to prepare for fly fishing. Not only high-quality materials, the right vise and a little skill influence the quality of the work - the right light also plays a decisive role in being able to reproduce flies as realistically as possible. The Flex Focus now supports our customers in preparing for fly fishing, especially on gloomy days.

The requirements

In order to perfect his fly tying art, our customer was looking for an additional, selective lighting option for his tying stick. The current room lighting and the additional table lamp in the fly tying workshop are not sufficient and not flexible enough. He is always faced with the challenge of directing the light onto the tying stick in such a way that the thin tying thread and the delicate feathers and hair can be clearly seen when tying flies and no shadows form.

The perception of colors due to a lack of daylight also proves to be problematic. The result: tying a lifelike fly is not only a challenge, but also puts a lot of strain on the eyes. This can be remedied by an additional daylight lamp on the vise, which allows a lot of freedom of movement, can be set up to save space and can be positioned flexibly.

Consulting and Planning

No two fly tying workshops are the same – the same applies to the lighting concept. In addition to individual needs, the given rooms and general room lighting are also a decisive factor in achieving a balanced distribution of brightness and avoiding glare.

In order to find the right tying light for our customer, all lighting planning requirements were clarified in a personal conversation and by exchanging pictures of the fly tying workshop. To ensure that the binding light meets all personal needs, it was first sent to the customer for testing.

The perfect bow tie thanks to selective daylight lighting

The choice ultimately fell on the FLEX Focus. The FLEXFocus With its focusable lens and flexible arm, it is the ideal lamp for selective illumination of the vise. The light cone can be focused as desired and allows you to illuminate the entire tying rod as well as to direct the light at specific points on a detail of the fly.

Thanks to a variety of mounting options, the binding light could be attached to a wooden board. This means that the space around the tying stick remains free, the tying lamp can be positioned flexibly at the desk and can be quickly stowed away when needed. A large range of additional accessories allows you to use other mounting alternatives such as a table clamp or a magnetic base if necessary.

Efficient LED modules with an illuminance of up to 1650 lux ensure daylight conditions at the binding table and accurate recognition of colors and details. Even during continuous operation, the lamp head of the RLL Flex Focus remains cool and can be touched and readjusted without any problems. We are pleased to see how the new RLL Flex graces our customer's fly tying workshop and literally puts the tying stick in the spotlight.
